Mountains

There is something about watching a mountain crumble.
Something gut-wrenching and
Heart-shattering and
Stomach-churning and
Nerve-wracking and
Stress-inducing about
watching a mountain crumble.
Because, well, see
mountains don't crumble.
They aren't meant to
Aren't designed to
Aren't supposed to.
Mountains are meant to be strong
Rock solid
and impenetrable
and infallible
and impermeable
and indestructible
and impervious
and unassailable
and stoic
and there.
All the time.
But, mountains,
like all structures
have a time
and a purpose
and a place
and a beginning
and an end.
And when the first crack appears
at the base
or the first fissure penetrates
on the side
or the cleft causes a breach
near the top
the structure begins to crumble.
Slowly.
But decisively.
And when mountains decide to crumble
They cannot be patched
or fixed
or glued.
They can only fall.
