So yesterday I was driving and I saw a green balloon on the highway. This made me think what it might be like to be a green balloon. This highly metaphorical piece examines life-and how we all are nothing more than a green balloon. Inquisitive and poignant, this encapsulates major ideas like life, death, freedom, Grace, destiny and providence. (This is the point where you snap three times)
Green Balloon on the Highway
Whipping along, following the path
Of a strong wind gust
Determined to set its course
In motion.
Unable to stop or wait or think or pray or mediate
On its own destiny
Plunging headfirst into traffic
Barely escaping antennas which might lead to
Its untimely death while
Dodging semis and motorcycles
Swerving around luxury BMWs and
Bouncing on the windshield of a Cadillac truck
Being knocked with grains of brown sand
Small pebbles and splattered bugs
Still plunging ahead, at the pitiless whim of the wind,
The heat from the black tar road
Radiates upward,
Threatening to burst it into a smattering of
Green rubber bits
Providence unknown:
Green Balloon on the Highway.
(now, snap again three times for emphasis. And, if you were waving a lighter around, feel free to put it out now before you singe your fingers)
